Election Campaign Office is still going Green!
Last month, I wrote about us moving into our campaign office and about how we are doing our best to be sustainable. Now that we have settled in, I’m extremely proud of our staff and our volunteers! They are doing a lot of great things to stay sustainable.
– Kevin takes the Red Line to work, except the past two weeks, where he stayed in the office until midnight. With just a week to the elections, he will have to drive, but after the March 8th elections, he’ll be back on the train.
– When we order food to the office from the neighboring restaurants, either we ask them to serve in china and we take it back before the end of the day, or we take our own china with us. They are now used to it and very nice about not wasting packaging.
– We have now two bike racks installed in front of our shop, and a lot of volunteers who bike in for phone banking and canvassing are happy that they can lock up securely in front of our store, where their bikes are visible.
– We have recycling bins and I take a full bin home every night where I can recycle everything.
– All inks from our printers are being recycled, and so are batteries and anything hazardous.
– Locals are bringing in fresh fruits from their gardens.
– We had to print lots of Law Signs that are unfortunately non-recycleable (they had to be coated because of weather and sprinklers) but we are also screen printing signs with sustainable paint, In-House, that are for businesses and apartments.
– We have coffee and tea makers and our staff have a choice between using mugs or paper cups and 80% of the time they choose china.
– TP is of course 100% sustainable from Trader Joe’s.
– Staff and volunteers have their own water bottles that they refill from our big water dispenser.
– And of course the Box Team is carpooling to candidate forums, meetings, coffees, etc., which is really awesome because we get to talk on the way about ideas, strategies, impressions after meetings, etc.
One of the most gratifying experiences about this office for me is that it’s so accessible to everybody. People from the street walk in and inquire about the campaign, friends drop by to pick up signs, and neighbors come in to pick up fliers.
The office is always busy with volunteers, with kids and sometimes we even have a dog wagging his tail at us, which makes this place a healthy atmosphere to be in.
I can’t wait to get some rest after the campaign is over, but in the meantime, we’d love your help in any way that you can! Elections are on March 8th, and regardless of where you live in Los Angeles, please get out and vote! It is so important for the future of LA that we all get involved and with as little as 8000 votes an Incumbent can be flipped and our city can be moved back onto the right track. You can get involved with our campaign or you can find candidates by searching your district and see who you like. All even numbered district are up for elections.
Get out and vote and get your friends, family and neighbors to vote as well, and help contribute to this Great City and it’s future!
