Summer is here (finally) and it really is time for us all venture out, leaving the comforts of our living rooms and to share with old and new friends alike what has now become a regular staple in the film events calendar – the outdoor summer screening!

With so many different venues and options to choose from these days, we round up a collection of our favourites across the UK.

Somerset House, London
Perhaps the most well known summer screening series, and the longest running, is Film 4 Summer Screen at Somerset House. This year boasts UK premiers of An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power on opening night and this years Palme d’Or winner The Square as well as a whole host of other crowd pleasing classics likes Jaws and Donnie Darko. Full screening dates and times

Luna Cinema, UK wide
Another long running outdoor series is Luna Cinema, famed for holding screenings of classic and popular movies alike across aesthetically pleasing and appropriate settings across the UK; our tops picks are…

Pride and Prejudice at Chatsworth House, Derbyshire – where part of the film was actually shot. The Jungle Book at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh and Romeo + Juliet outside Westminster Abbey, London.

Rooftop Film Club, London
London based Rooftop Film Club will be holding screenings at London venues Queen of Hoxton, Bussey Building and Roof East. We recommend booking feel good summer film La La Land, award winning Moonlight and 80s sing and dance along classic Dirty Dancing. Unlike some other outdoor screenings where you will need to bring a blanket and cushion, deckchairs are provided, but do be aware, the sound will be via wireless headphones provided by the venue. Full program here.

Regents Park, London
And its not just film screenings, this summer outdoor theatre productions return to London once again for atmospheric shows in the leafy surrounds of Regents Park. Shows include A Tale of Two Cities, Oliver Twist (for kids) and the award winning musical Jesus Christ Superstar, dates and times here.
