Nothing is more exciting than the words, “You’ve got an audition!” And at the same time, that phrase can make your pits sweat, heart race and anxiety course through your blood! There are many moments in the business of entertainment and life as an entrepreneur, that require balls out courage and showing up with confidence. It’s imperative to utilize these anxious feelings and make them our bitch.

With a number of dietary and lifestyle choices that ease anxiety and nervousness, it would almost seem like self-sabotage to make choices that encourage these crappy feelings. As a performer, or anyone who wants to take control of their emotions, what we put into our bodies not only feeds our cells but our brains too! So, let’s stock up that noggin with the essentials needed to make anxiety lose the job!

I may sound like your Mother, you can call me Mommy, but you HAVE to eat breakfast! A huge source of anxiety stems from having no gas in the tank. When we don’t have proper nutrition feeding our muscles, brain and hormones, damn straight managing ourselves gets tougher. Jill, what do I make? Whip up a protein shake with superfoods, greens and a plant based protein powder. Warm up oatmeal with a chopped apple or blueberries topped with chia & flaxseed meal. Toast some Ezekiel bread and top with almond butter, raw honey & hemp seeds. Scramble up an omelet with organic pasture raised eggs and lots of veggies. Or, if you’re having a lazy morning or busy AF, grab a clean healthy bar like GoMacro, RISE Bar or Health Warrior. Get 30% off Health Warrior with code: JAL30. You’re welcome 🙂

In an organic nutshell, you want these:

  • Omega 3’s
  • Organic Vegetables
  • Cacao or Dark Chocolate
  • Bananas boost serotonin
  • Cayenne Pepper relieves depression
  • Green juice or smoothie gives energy
  • Water gives more energy and less stress
  • Legumes, beans, nuts and seeds
  • Chamomile, Rooibos and Tulsi Tea
  • Kombucha and other fermented foods
Alright let’s get super specific, shall we?

Increased copper and decreased zinc may lead to symptoms of anxiety. Think pumpkin seeds, grass fed beef, chickpeas, cacao powder, cashews, almonds…

Turkey contains tryptophan, the precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin, which helps you to feel calm. Also, wild salmon, halibut, whole grains and seaweed can get that job done too!

Asparagus. A 5-ounce serving provides 60% of the recommended daily allowance for folic acid! Low levels of folic acid are linked to neurotransmitter impairment, which can lead to anxiety. Would you rather have a little “asparagus pee” or anxiety. Pee baby! Learn to hold your breath longer.

Plant foods like kale, swiss chard and spinach are rich in magnesium, think nature’s zanax, which also helps regulate the brain-adrenal axis.

Adaptogenic herbs like ashwagandha, rhodiola and holy basil. You can take them as supplements, tea or tinctures in a dropper bottle.

Maca Root has the highest phytonutrient levels, including magnesium and iron, which are important nutrients for controlling anxiety. Maca also provides natural energy and just may boost your libido. So if you by chance found yourself on a casting couch, your performance would be through the roof!

Oh, and one more thing!

Staying away from excessive alcohol, sugar, artificial sugars, processed crap, vegetable oils, dairy and GMO’s will increase your star power while decreasing anxiety that comes with the job.

Now go feed that leading man/woman in you while starving away the anxiety.
